The Robot Zoo
THE ITINERANT EXHIBITION REVEALS THE BIOMECHANICS OF ROBOT ANIMALS
Children across the nation can explore the biomechanics of complex animal robots to find out how real animals work, thanks to a traveling exhibit, "The Robot Zoo".
The 5,000 square foot exhibit reveals the magic of nature like a master engineer.
Eight robot animals and more than a dozen hands-on activities illustrate fascinating real-life features, such as the way a chameleon changes color, a giant squid pushes itself, and a fly walks across the ceiling.
Larger-than-life animated robots include a chameleon, rhino, giant squid with 18-foot tentacles, and a platypus.
Also featured are a housefly with a 10-foot parchment, a grasshopper, a bat and a giraffe whose head and neck alone extend 9 feet in height.
The cutouts expose the insides of the animals as a series of easily recognizable machine parts and gadgets, such as shock absorbers and pumps, that demonstrate what makes animals work.
By comparing the anatomy, environments and sizes of real creatures with their mechanical counterparts, The Robot Zoo offers fantastic new insights and hands-on fun to discover how animals work.
