This summer school is an initiative jointly organized by the MIT Portugal Program (MPP), LSTS - Underwater Systems and Technology Laboratory (FEUP) and the University of the Azores, with the participation of AIR Center; CoLab + ATLANTIC; Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation; School of the Azores Sea; and Instituto de Investigação em Ciências do Mar - OKEANOS
The summer course under the High Patronage of the Regional Council of the Azores.
The Marine Robotics Summer School 2022 will take place on the island of Faial, in the Azores, from 11 to 22 July
For 2 weeks, participants will gain experience in marine robotics and oceanography, particularly in applications for ocean observation, archeology and ecosystem mapping
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20 candidates.
The program includes:
Lessons with world-renowned experts from the United States (MIT) and Europe;
Workshops presenting the basics of ocean science and the use of robotics in ocean research and monitoring;
Field demonstrations to showcase the latest in autonomous systems technology, instrumentation, sensors and remote operations;
Practical field studies aimed at oceanographic phenomena around the Azores;
Experience in the implementation, operation and recovery of autonomous systems;
Experience of working with ocean data standards and data analytics.
Sponsorship
The organizers will provide student sponsorship for the travel and accommodation of the selected candidates in order to support their participation in the Marine Robotics Summer School
The sponsorship includes the flight from Lisbon to Faial and a shared room near the venue.
