The Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC) aims to be one of the largest and most prestigious international robotics competitions in the world.
Held every two years in Abu Dhabi as a real-world challenge for universities, research centers, companies and individual innovators around the world, we inspire the development of solutions in autonomous robotic technologies of aerial and surface vehicles.
At the forefront of exploration and experimentation, we have set out to find new technological successes that are resilient in an ever-changing market, strengthening the UAE's role as an emerging hub for advanced technological innovations.
MBZIRC is managed by ASPIRE, the program management pillar of the Advanced Technology Research Council of Abu Dhabi, which oversees technology research in the Emirate. Through the MBZIRC Maritime Grand Challenge, we at ASPIRE are trying to bridge the gap by pushing technological boundaries and allowing robots to work more autonomously in dynamic and unstructured environments, interacting and collaborating with us and with each other.
The competition, to be held in 2023, will bring together universities, research institutes and individual innovators from around the world to collaborate on finding a practical solution to global maritime security challenges such as illegal fishing, piracy, smuggling and trafficking. human beings.
It is the first experiment of its kind that will involve a heterogeneous collaboration between unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vehicles to perform complex navigation and manipulation tasks in a GNSS-free marine environment.
The contest offers a cash prize of US $ 3,250,000
The team that wins the grand prize will take home US $ 2,000,000.
The second-placed team will receive US $ 500,000
The team that wins the third prize wins $ 250,000.
A special cash prize of $ 500,000 will also be awarded to all teams that advance to the demonstration stage. The amount is to be divided between the teams.
