1st RAMI physical campaign
for Marine Robots 2022, July 10-15
We are pleased to announce the first Robotics for Asset Maintenance and Inspection (RAMI) Marine Robots competition to be held at the NATO STO Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) in La Spezia, Italy, from 10 to 15 July 2021. The competition will challenge the autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) of the participating teams to carry out inspection and maintenance tasks established in the CMRE protected seawater basin. AUVs will require perception, manipulation, adaptive mission planning, and autonomous navigation capabilities to be successful.
The RAMI competition is organized within the METRICS project (Metrological Evaluation and Testing of Robots in International Competitions) and aims to tackle inspection and maintenance tasks carried out by aerial and underwater robots in risky and / or hostile environments in which human intervention it is challenging or impossible, where direct connection with an operator cannot be guaranteed and where autonomous decisions are required to reduce the operational times of inspection tasks and ensure repeatability while maintaining an adequate safety level for the mission. The evaluation process of the RAMI competitions mainly involves tasks relating to autonomous navigation, acquisition, detection, classification and decision-making autonomy for inspection purposes. Since the aerial and underwater domains are very different, both domains will be evaluated separately in two different tracks.
The RAMI Marine Robots competition is based on the experience of the European Robotics League (ERL) emergency competitions. The European Robotics League is an innovative concept for robot competitions that derives from its predecessors, the euRathlon and RoCKIn competitions, and focuses on the tasks that emergency response robots perform in a realistic emergency environment. For more information on ERL, visit https://eu-robotics.net/robotics_league/.
The RAMI Physical Campaign for Marine Robots 2022 will also be an ERL Emergency Local Tournament in the 2021-2022 ERL Emergency Robot Season (ERL-ER).
